Wisdom Tree Institute aims to collect and make available a variety of resources relating to trees, humankind's relationship with trees, the benefits of trees, and sustainable lutherie (making and repairing stringed instruments in an environmentally-conscious way) for anyone interested in trees and sustainability as it relates to the art of lutherie.

Trees are integral to our lives in many facets: they provide us with important resources such as paper, furniture, and building supplies; they give us the ability to express ourselves artistically through the music of wood instruments; and they benefit our very existence through their respiration cycle, their cooling shade, their ability to combat climate change and to provide food, and their prevention of water pollution and soil erosion. Human beings have a rich history with trees and have shared a deep connection with them since our appearance on earth. There exists tree mythos in every culture around the world describing the importance of and even the worship of trees.

With this growing collection of resources, we hope to provide you with information about our impact on the environment (especially as luthiers, woodworkers, and artisans), the trees that sustain our very livelihood and our creative expression through musical instruments, and local and global reforestation and tree planting efforts being made to preserve trees and forests for future generations.
