Wisdom Tree Institute

The Wisdom Tree Institute (WTI) is an online initiative that gathers educational resources (websites, books, articles, and visual media) organized in the format of a virtual library which highlights and explores related subjects such as sustainability (notably the art of sustainable lutherie), plant neurobiology, reforestation and tree-planting efforts, and the important relationship between humans and trees.

The Wisdom Tree Institute was inspired by luthiers and artisans who use wood as the primary material for their craft, and seeks to present these resources through the perspective of a luthier and lens of an artist dedicated to actively utilizing sustainable practices. We do our best to provide accurate information from reputable sources gathered in one convenient location. We hope to provide you with intriguing information that encourages and inspires you to make sustainable choices in the practice of lutherie and in your everyday life.

Wisdom Tree Institute was founded by William Eaton, current Director and one of the founders of the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery located in Phoenix, Arizona. The Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery has been teaching the art of guitar making and repair since 1975 and implements sustainable practices in the workshop and the school's curriculum.

Humans could not exist without trees. Trees release oxygen into the atmosphere during the process of photosynthesis, using energy from sunlight in the making of glucose. Trees have provided shelter and food for every culture on earth. Our present and future is reliant upon and interdependent with trees, and it is becoming increasingly important to preserve old and existing growth forests, and support and initiate sustainable practices for the planting, caring and harvesting of trees.

Our Mission

Picture

Wisdom Tree Institute is a networking and resource organization dedicated to bringing attention and awareness to individuals, companies, and organizations in the world of lutherie who incorporate sustainable practices in their everyday personal and professional activities. By citing and sharing these examples, our goal is to inspire and educate so that, like trees, we each pass along information to better adapt and contribute to a symbiotic sustainable future.

We encourage you to share your stories with us and we will include your information in our Resources section. Our Mission is to inspire a more sustainable world and acknowledge the pioneers in sustainable lutherie and plant biology who are making a positive impact.
